Mac disable sip for totalfinder12/16/2023 ![]() ![]() I am not sure why Apple has done it like that. The downside is that Spotlight itself will no longer show the results of hidden categories. ![]() The advantage is that you can achieve true folder/file separation with an alphabetic index. All files belonging to a hidden category will be thrown together. Choose Arrange by Kind and Sort by Name and hide all the categories that you don't want to see in Spotlight preferences. I’ll have to experiment and get back to you, but in the meantime, you could just run csrutil disable to disable SIP entirely.It seems to me that if every software out there has this issue with these 2 apps, then we could consider that its a bug of these apps, not window management apps such as alt-tab-macos. This will divide file types into Spotlight categories and it's typically straightforward to see your documents, depending on the sort order in Spotlight. Unfortunately I cant test XtraFinder or TotalFinder for myself because I cant disable SIP on my macbook. Choose Arrange by Kind and Sort by Name instead.This is not a good solution, as the alphabetic index will be mostly gone. Then you need to open the View Options inspector in Finder (View > Show View Options) and pick Arrange by None and then Sort by Kind. I remember having to restart my Mac to activate the change, not sure whether that has changed. Unfortunately you have to keep SIP disabled to allow TotalFinder. Reboot your machine and you may install and run the latest version of TotalFinder. This turns off System Integrity Protection so that TotalFinder can be installed. Go to system preferences > Spotlight and move the folders category to the top (doesn't have to be all the way, just above the file types you typically see in Finder). It looks like this: In the window that opens, type csrutil disable and press return. Even after disabling SIP, on Catalina, you will find that the system volume is not writable. You might want to read this blog post for historical context. It does not modify your Finder files on the disk. Please keep in mind that TotalFinder is an add-on that gets loaded into the Finder when you launch TotalFinder.app. TotalFinder works like the normal Finder but adds tabs, dual panels, colored labels, and other features. I have already edited my ist file and I have modified the CsrActiveConfig to 0圆7 but when I try to use TotalFinder, SIP appears enabled. That means it was submitted for checking and officially doesn’t contain viruses itself. TotalFinder for Mac users who demand more from their Finder. For those interested: in Finder itself, sorting by kind is connected to your sort order in Spotlight. TotalFinder, on the other hand, basically just gives up and accepts defeat when an exact (or extremely similar) skeuomorphic icon has ceased to exist, and just falls back to the Finder rendering instead of doing what colorfulSidebarX does and trying to use icons from other apps (Installer, iBooks, the App Store, etc.) to kinda approximate it. Everything is working great but I have tried to disable SIP in order to install TotalFinder and I can not figure out how to accomplish this. ![]()
